The Raleigh Area Public Safety Racing League is a non-profit corporation dedicated to:

  • The development of interagency working relationships among public safety professionals
  • The development of youth programs and mentorships centered around motorsports
  • Formal introductions of youth to organized motorsports

RAPS began in 2006 as the brain child of Jeffrey Hammerstein. The first adult RAPS race was held in January 2007 with Public Safety agencies from around the Wake County area sending representation. The June 2007 and Januray 2008 races were even bigger.

The first RAPS Youth Racing League began in October and ran through December. As part of future leagues, RAPS is hoping to sponsor RAPS Nights where guest speakers from around the public safety community, as well as the racing industry, come to talk with RAPS youth and parents about topics such as safe driving (in general), racing theory, kart/car handling skills, etc..

RAPS aims to develop instinctive driving behaviors at an early age, which will translate into better prepared teenage drivers. Along with the car handling skills developed in the RAPS youth racing league, kids will develop good sportmanship, increased awareness of child and teen safety issues, and a better understanding of the motorsports industry.
